Did You Know that Oral Cancer is One of the 10 Most Common Cancers?
Nearly 30,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed each year, and because symptoms are easily overlooked, it has a high fatality rate unless it’s caught early. That’s why we insist on doing a complete oral cancer screening for every patient once a year. To ensure the most thorough exam, Dr. Carbonell uses VELscope®, an FDA-approved screening system that uses a special blue-spectrum light to look for abnormalities. It’s fast, easy, painless, and, most importantly, could save your life.
Cosmetic Imaging Ensures the Most Informed Decisions
Committing to a plan for creating a new, brilliant smile can be a little scary. How do you know the results will be what you’re looking for? Because you are the most important part of our team, we provide the tools that allow you to make the best choices. Cosmetic imaging allows us to show you the effects of certain procedures on your own smile, taking the guesswork out of the equation!
An Exciting Weapon for Fighting Gum Disease
Periodontal disease, or gum disease, can sneak up on you. The symptoms are easy to miss or ignore, and before you know it, it’s taken over your smile. You may have heard stories about the pain and difficulty of treating gum disease, but we are thrilled to tell you about a fantastic treatment that defeats gum disease powerfully and without pain. ARESTIN® comes in powder form and contains an antibiotic designed to kill the bacteria that cause gum disease. The antibiotic is time-released from tiny microspheres and attacks the bacteria where it hides in the pockets between teeth and gums. This delivery system means treatment is completely painless!
Your Teeth on TV, Up Close and Personal
You’ve probably heard of the little camera that is placed in your mouth to take video pictures of your teeth and gums. But did you know that the camera is not just for you to see? This technology actually helps Dr. Carbonell do an even better job of checking your teeth. It can magnify the inside of your mouth more than 40 times. It helps the doctor find problems sooner, before they become problematic. Isn’t that what a dental check up should be about?
For More Precise-Fitting Crowns
The Cadent iTero® digital impression system is dentistry gone 3D. With iTero, a laser light produces a highly accurate impression for your crown or bridge area, completely eliminating the uncomfortable tray and putty impression. What’s more, iTero technology all but guarantees a perfect fit for your new crown or bridge, so you spend less time at the dentist’s office and more time enjoying your new smile.
New Dental Imaging Reduces Radiation up to 75%
For a long time, traditional dental x-rays have been “good enough,” but with today’s modern dental technology, a more accurate diagnosis is required. Enter digital imaging. The new dental imaging technology produces up to 75% less radiation than the traditional x-rays. Traditional x-rays are and always have been perfectly safe, but some people are nervous about the amount of radiation they may receive in the dental office. This new technology greatly reduces this concern. Our panoramic digital imager takes a full x-ray of your entire mouth and jaw, giving us a complete picture of the underlying structures and individual teeth.
No Need to Fear Root Canals
Occasionally, infection or advanced decay (sometimes due to cracking or breakage) causes damage to a tooth’s roots. When this happens, one possible treatment is pulling the tooth; losing a tooth can cause all kinds of problems, however, so we avoid that whenever possible by performing a root canal instead. New techniques and comfort measures make modern root canals very different from the ones of the past.
Digital Imaging
Dr. Carbonell chooses carefully which and when radiographs are taken. There are many guidelines that we follow. Radiographs allow us to see everything we cannot see with our own eyes and enable us to detect cavities between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs.
Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health. Exposure time for dental radiographs is extremely minimal. The doctor utilizes digital imaging technologies within the office. With digital imaging, exposure time is about 50 percent less when compared to traditional radiographs. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information, to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to specialists or insurance companies.
Digital X-Rays
Digital x-rays offer more precision since we view the image on a computer monitor, instead of holding up a 35mm film up to the light. Digital x-rays result in 1/6th of the radiation exposure.
Intraoral Camera
Many patients, especially younger patients, are familiar with the latest technology and are comfortable with a high tech practice. Computers and TV screens are their primary method of information processing.
Dr. Carbonell utilizes Intraoral Camera technology that helps enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An Intraoral Camera is a very small camera – in some cases, just a few millimeters long – that allows our practice to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums, in order for us to accurately make a diagnosis. With clear, defined, enlarged images, you see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations. This can mean faster diagnosis with less chair time for you!
Intraoral cameras also enable our practice to save your images on our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These images can be printed for you, other specialists, and your lab or insurance companies.
Zoom!™ Whitening – Teeth Whitening for a High-Wattage Smile
Natural teeth can be stained by tobacco, foods and beverages such as tea and berries, and deposits of calculus or tartar. A tooth can also be discolored through the effects of aging, injury, and certain illnesses. The result can be a yellowish, dingy-looking smile. Severe staining can even come as a result of taking tetracycline during childhood.
At Dr. Kevin Carbonell, we offer two ways to brighten your smile. We use ZOOM!™ Whitening in the office to lighten your teeth by up to 14 shades! If you prefer, we can custom-make a whitening tray and provide the supplies for you to complete the process at home.
Teeth whitening doesn’t remove any of the tooth’s structure, and even teeth that have had root canals can easily be whitened. The results can be dazzling, giving you a bright, gleaming smile to improve your appearance!
