The Benefits of Dental Implants

February 24th, 2022

From genetics to gum disease, there are many reasons that people lose teeth. While I try to preserve my patients’ teeth as often as possible, sometimes, tooth loss is inevitable. When you lose a tooth, not only are you faced with the embarrassment of having a gap in your smile, but you are at increased risk for shifting teeth, gum disease, and even bone loss. The good news is that I have the perfect solution for tooth loss — from a single tooth to an entire mouthful of teeth. Learn more here:

Dental Implants

Dentures used to be the only option for patients who experienced tooth loss, but dentistry has come a long way since those days. Now, many patients prefer dental implants, which are placed below the gumline and function as anchors for prosthetic teeth.

The Benefits of Implants

The biggest perk of dental implants is that they are permanent. Because they are surgically placed and fused to the jaw bone, they offer the stability of natural teeth (which cannot be said of dentures). Just a few other benefits my patients enjoy include:

  • No eating restrictions. Because of their superior stability, implants allow patients to eat what they want. Corn on the cob? Check. Caramel apple? Check. A nice piece of steak? Check. This means that you can get the nutrients your body needs without having to cut your food into tiny pieces that require little chewing.
  • Easy cleaning. Dental implants are cared for the same way as natural teeth; you must brush after meals, floss once a day, and visit your dentist as recommended. No soaking overnight, no brushing away adhesive gels, and no special effervescent tablets to buy — just your run-of-the-mill dental care tools.
  • Speech clarity. Take a moment to recite the alphabet to yourself and you’ll notice just how involved the teeth are in speaking correctly. With dentures — even those with a proper fit – some words are difficult to pronounce. Implants are firmly anchored in your mouth, giving you the ability to speak clearly and be understood by all.

My patients love the benefits of dental implants and I’m confident that you’ll feel the same. If you are interested in replacing a tooth or have been considering an alternative to your dentures, call my office today to schedule a consultation.
