The Wonders of Porcelain Veneers
When I talk to patients and learn just how long they’ve been unhappy with their smiles, it crushes me. They’ve spent years covering their mouths when they laugh, sharing close-lipped smiles in pictures, and in some cases, avoiding socialization altogether. Thing of it is, if they had spoken with me sooner, I would have been able to tell them about all of the treatment options that are available. I want you to be well-informed now so you don’t have to wait to have a gorgeous smile, so let’s talk about one of my favorite (and most versatile) treatment options. Continue reading to learn more.
What Are Veneers?
In the simplest terms, veneers are ultra-thin porcelain shells made to fit over the front surface of your visible teeth. They look realistic, function just like your natural teeth, and can completely transform a smile. They’re also a conservative solution to correct your smile, as there is no surgery involved.
How Are Veneers Used?
This is one of the reasons I recommend veneers so often; they can correct almost any imperfection! This includes:
Stained teeth that are resistant to whitening
Cracked or chipped teeth
Misshapen teeth, such as those that are too round or square on top
Gaps between teeth
Slightly misaligned teeth
What Does Treatment Involve?
Patients who grind or clench their teeth or have insufficient enamel are not good candidates for veneers and may want to consider other cosmetic treatment options. If you are a good candidate, then you can expect the following process:
We’ll discuss what you want the end result to look like
We’ll prepare your teeth for your veneers by removing a thin layer of enamel
I’ll take an impression of your prepared teeth and send it to a lab, where your customized veneers will be made of the best quality porcelain to ensure that they will last
Once your porcelain veneers are ready, you’ll come back to my office where I will permanently bond them to your teeth
If you’re not happy with your smile, then what are you waiting for? Talk to me about your concerns and, together, we’ll come up with a solution that will give you reason to smile. Whether you come in for a cosmetic consultation or it’s simply time for your semi-annual exam and cleaning, I look forward to seeing you at your next visit.
