More About Dental Bridges
All of your teeth are required to speak clearly, chew food, and maintain proper alignment of your bite. Even a single missing tooth can create problems down the road. One option for correcting tooth loss is a dental bridge.
A dental bridge is a device used to replace missing teeth. It utilizes prosthetic teeth that create a “bridge” between your natural teeth (also known as abutment teeth). Bridges can be either fixed or removable.
Fixed Bridges
A fixed bridge is placed either by placing crowns on the abutment teeth or by bonding the bridge directly to the abutment teeth.
Removable Bridges
Also called removable partial dentures, removable bridges are affixed to the teeth with metal clasps or other durable attachments.
Common Questions
Even a single missing tooth can adversely affect your life. In addition to making you self-conscious about your appearance, a missing tooth can cause the remaining teeth to shift, resulting in bite complications, difficulty speaking, and difficulty eating. It is vital to replace a missing tooth (or teeth) as soon as possible to avoid these problems.
Because a bridge closes the gap where teeth are absent, it maintains your alignment and the shape of your face.
Brushing and flossing are required not only to keep your bridge clean, but to ensure the health of the abutment teeth. As always, regular trips to the dentist will allow us to see potential problems before they exist.

Fabricating a bridge usually takes several appointments. Dr. Carbonell will prepare the abutment teeth and may take an impression to allow a precise bridge to be fabricated in a dental lab. Once your replacement tooth or teeth are created, the appliance will be tried on to confirm the fit and esthetics of the bridge or removable appliance. It will then be returned to the laboratory for finalization and will then be inserted at your next visit to the office.
