Implant Retained Dentures

Missing teeth can affect your bite as well as your ability to speak and chew. For this reason, it is best to replace the missing teeth. One option for tooth replacement is implant retained dentures. While some patients are comfortable wearing an upper denture, many are not, and most people find it uncomfortable to wear and eat with lower dentures. Implant-supported replacements are available to improve the comfort and functionality of upper and lower dentures.

What If I’m Missing All of My Upper or Lower Teeth?

If you are missing all of your upper or lower teeth, you can still enjoy the stability of implant retained dentures. Your options include:

Locator Attachment Denture
Locator attachments require a minimum of two implants to be placed in your upper or lower jaw to allow a denture to snap into place. This option will provide improved stability while chewing, but may create sore spots if any food particles are caught beneath the denture.

Bar Attachment Denture
A bar attachment denture involves placing four to six implants into your upper or lower jaw. After you have healed, the implants are connected using a customized support bar. The retention clips that attach to the support bar provides stability and very little denture movement.

Screw Retained Denture
Screw retained dentures are a permanent solution. Four or more implants are placed in the jaw, allowing the denture to be held in place by screws. The denture does not impinge on the gum tissue, allowing you to clean underneath without removing it. In fact, your denture will only be removed at maintenance visits.
